Explaining Male Adult Acne

Acne is a problem of both genders, commonly to teenagers when there is erratic change in hormonal balance happening during pubescent years.  After passing the crucial times of adolescence and one still suffers from acne, then it is called adult acne.

Male adult acne results from over production of testosterone causing skin troubles in the face.  This uncontrolled production of androgen can clog the sebaceous glands and cause the bacteria to thrive the hair follicles causing acne.  Women tend to suffer from adult acne compared to men.  However, men suffer from its severity worse compared to women.  Men tend to have bigger acne.

The acne you see in adult male is not cause by dirt associated with poor hygiene.  This is the reason you will wonder why some men whose jobs are exposed to dirt could have clear skin compared to an office worker.  Male adult acne is not caused by exposure to dirty elements, but when the hair follicles of the face secrete more oils, the bacteria multiplies to infect the pore causing acne breakouts.

Exfoliating the skin to reduce acne can help lessen the dead cells.  However, harsh ingredients found in exfoliating solutions will not allow long-term solution for acne-prone skin.  Over use of chemicals to peel the skin can only lead to hyper pigmentation, where the affected skin darkens out of prolonged exposure to the product ingredients.

Because of the common sights of male having acne, there are many telltale home remedies claimed by many individuals just to solve the severity of acne.  Some of the recipes like toothpaste and herbs are claimed to have cleared their acne.  But in the end they cannot avoid the truth about the unknown flare-ups especially during stressful times.

If you associate acne with dirt, the tendency is to over wash the face thinking it will clear the face.  Too much washing of the face will only dry and irritate the skin, which will end up having more flare-ups.  But it will help to remove sediments and cosmetics if reduced to twice a day only.  Topical treatments work well after the face is washed thoroughly with soap and water before application.

Men must understand that their adult acnes are hormonal in nature caused by male activity of testosterone they produce and it happens with age.  The male hormone provokes androgenic effects in the body.  While women have common cases because of natural hormonal cycle changes occurring every month, men have bigger and devastating breakout of nodular acne cause by androgen production.

For immediate solution, doctors usually prescribe benzoyl peroxide to lessen the growth and multiplication process of the bacteria in the face.  The dose starts with the lowest percentage of 2.5% for the skin to adjust to the treatment.  The dosage will be increased depending on how worse the acne is.  During the treatment, direct exposure to sunlight must be avoided.

Acne treatments directly applied to skin have peeling effects.  Bacteria inhabit these dead skins causing infections.  Hastening the peeling is the reason why some medications solve acne temporarily.  If the male adult acne is not so severe, there is a promise of cure by using topical treatments only.  Dermatologists can assess the problem properly.

We cannot avoid the truth about how adult acne affects even the male gender.  It is intensified more the way society has invisibly put pressure on men's status as the strong gender.  But acne can lower his confidence making the struggle even harder.
