Cosmetics And Acne May Have A Connection
While it's true acne doesn't have a single cause, it's believed by some that acne in young women might just find its root in the make up experimentation phase. Since young skin isn't used to being covered up with make up, moisturizer and other such products, it might just find itself clogging as a result.
For young women who want to wear make up, but avoid acne, if possible, there is some good advice available. In general, it's a good idea for young women to first learn how to take care of their skin and then learn how to properly buy and apply make up.
For everyday skin care, here's what's recommended:
* Wash the face twice a day with warm water and a gentle cleanser. Take care not to wash roughly or scrape the skin. If acne is present, this can irritate it. If it's not, this can still irritate the skin and cause damage.
* Avoid harsh chemicals that aren't necessary. A light moisturizer with sunscreen might be a good idea, but harsh drying agents generally are not be.
Remember, the one thing medical science knows for sure about acne is that it's not caused "by being dirty." The condition can and does present itself in just about every human on the planet regardless of hygiene preferences, but cleansing is still important for taking proper care of the skin.
Now, for make up. The best advice from medical professionals is to avoid the use of make up entirely, but since that won't be taken to heart by many women, the next best thing is to wear as little as possible. When choosing make up, go with those products that are oil-free and water based. Moisturizers are OK, but they should be water-based for certain.
When choosing products for use on the face, look for those that are labeled "non-comedogenic," which means they won't cause white or blackheads. Also, look for products that say they are "non-acnegenic." While these might cost more, they are worth the price to assist in minimizing breakouts while still providing the coverage desired.
Remember that it's important to wash your face at least twice a day. And, for those who choose to wear make up, it's even more important to wipe the slate clean each evening and start over fresh in the morning. It only takes a few minutes each night to wash away the day's make up, don't forget to invest this time.
While make up might not be the cause of a person's acne, it can inflame the condition. Be sure to buy the right products to lessen the chances for breakouts and remember to remove all make up each evening and the use of the products likely won't have a big impact one way or another.
