The Hidden Dangers Of Using Children's Skin Care Products

Our skin is healthiest during childhood. That is why the desire to maintain its smoothness and suppleness has driven people crazy over skin care products as they grow older. Unfortunately, old people are not the only ones worrying about the dangers to our skin, our children's skin is also exposed to the risks of skin irritations and complications due to the very things that are supposed to keep their skin healthy: children's skin care products.

Parents may not be aware that they are exposing their children to toxic ingredients that are present in their kids' daily skin care regimen. This holds especially true in infants, whose skin can absorb topical ointments or any skin care product more than adults do – leading to a growing need for natural, organic baby products. Skin care for your babies through natural ways can offer safer and effective alternatives to those that are bought over the counter.

Typically, babies use at least three skin care products several times everyday, so just imagine the toxic substances that could accumulate in your babies' skin, which can lead to skin irritations – some so bad that it may be too late for you to completely cure them.

Babies usually have fun taking bubble baths. Sometimes, they can give their parents a hard time getting them out of the bath tub. But how safe are these bubble soap baths, really? It was found out that most bubble baths actually contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) – an ingredient found in detergents, floor cleaners and car soaps – which is highly erosive and can damage children's skin by stripping away their skin's pH, leading to dryness.

SLS can seep into the tissues and stay there. Sometimes it can get into your kid's eyes which prevents them from developing properly and can cause cataracts in the long run. Children's skin care products with an ingredient like this are also said to be the top cause of urinary tract infections and vaginitis in kids. If you read your bubble bath labels carefully, you can see that there is actually a warning about these dangers – as advised by the FDA.

Aside from SLS, some children's skin care products – upon closer inspection of the labels – also contain cancer-causing agents like formaldehyde, 1,4-dioxane and some nitrosamines which can also be highly irritating on children's skin.

Instead, try doing baby skin care the organic way. There are natural ingredients that can not only keep your babies' skin healthy but safe from irritations as well. Coconut oil, soya protein and other plant extracts can be great for your kid's hair, so shampoos with these ingredients are a keeper.

Skin lotions with aloe vera, chamomile, calendula, marigold and arnica will be very good for young skin too – they have moisturizing properties and they smell really good too. Powders are not really needed, unless prescribed by your pediatrician. This may contain small particles which can irritate skin. Pediatrician's suggest that instead of using powders to treat rashes, allow the baby's bottom to be exposed to fresh air. Basically, all you really have to do is  to just steer away from children's skin care products with synthetic fragrances, artificial coloring and preservatives.

Taking care of your kids' skin while their young can really make a difference in their skin's condition in the future. Children's skin care products that contain organic ingredients are your safest bet when it comes to making sure that your kids' skin is well-taken care of in all aspects.
