How To Get Rid Of Age Spots -Microdermabrasion

The quest for maintaining a clear, glowing skin usually falls short whenever age spots or wrinkles appear. It doesn't help either that age spots appear mostly on the face and arms – those parts that are always exposed - and that they are such blots on one's beauty, especially since it is the face which most people first look at. That is why most people just can't wait to find a solution for how to get rid of the ages spots once and for all.

The ultimate cause of age spots on the face is excessive sun exposure. Basically, these spots are your skin's way of protecting itself from the harmful UV rays of the sun. The skin produces a lot of melanin – the cells which give your skin and hair its color – to act as a barrier. The melanin clumps up together forming those unsightly spots.

Even if you can't stand the sight of them tainting your face,  these spots aren't really harmful – most of the time. At times though, these age spots are early indications of cancer. If your spot changes in size, changes color or bleeds, seek the help of a doctor.

Harmless or not, most people still prefer removing age spots. There are a lot of age spot treatments and procedures for getting rid of age spots available today, and choosing how to get rid of age spots is just a matter of personal taste or preference.

One of the most common procedures people undergo for removing age spots is microdermabrasion. In this non-surgical age spot treatment, the skin is sandblasted using a special machine which spurts out microcrystals  that abrades the top layer of the skin. The machine acts as a vacuum as well, sucking in used crystals and dead skin. This allows for new skin to resurface – making the spots, especially those age spots on the face, disappear completely after a few sessions.

Simply put, this treatment “polishes” your skin, leaving it smooth and glowing. Microdermabrasion treatments usually last about 30 to 60 minutes, after which you can immediately resume normal activities - even just minutes after the treatment.

Most of the time however, it will take numerous sessions before you achieve the result you want– with each session costing an average of $220, which can be pretty costly especially when you need at least a dozen sessions. And as recommended, you should also pair it up with a good maintenance regimen – perhaps a chemical peel - to go with this procedure.

This treatment works well for those patients that have sensitive skin, since it doesn't involve dousing themselves in chemicals; and those people who have good skin elasticity. But having sensitive skin, you must also check with your surgeon about the other stuff that you'll need for maintenance – like sunscreen or moisturizers for example – just to make sure that they won't irritate your skin due to a chemical reaction.

After the treatment, patients normally feel a temporary burning sensation, or peeling in some areas – this is nothing a recommended moisturizer can't fix. Redness which could last for days can also occur, especially right after the treatment.  But this will eventually fade out along with the age spots.

Microdermabrasion is a relatively gentle way of removing age spots. It's up to you if you want to give it a try. Who knows, you might end up never worrying about how to get rid of age spots ever again.
