Homemade Topical Treatments For Staph Infections: Boils

Topical treatments for staph infections have always been the first thing people get on hand as soon as a symptom of infection manifests itself. Normally, these treatments are used against the Staphylococcus bacteria which invade the skin surfaces and cause red, itchy and oftentimes painful bumps filled with pus to appear all over. These bacteria can also go beyond the skin surface and into our system where they do more damage. But for minor skin infections, topical treatments for staph infections on the skin slowly but surely do the job.

Boils are painful, swollen, red bumps on the skin that are usually filled with pus. Sometimes one may feel a bit feverish when these little bumps grow right out of the skin's surface. Topical treatments for staph infections usually keep the boils down after a couple of days. But if you want faster, yet safe healing, trying some natural remedies for staph infection at home can help speed up the healing process.

If you have turmeric powder around the house, you can make a paste out of it that will help your boils heal faster. The only downside is, it may leave you with a funny looking stain on the skin. Combine 2 tablespoons of oatmeal, a tablespoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon each of salt and baking soda into a paste and apply it directly to the boils, making sure to cover them with gauze.

Taking turmeric internally can also help. A tablespoon of turmeric taken with a glass of water thrice a day can keep boils down in as little as three days.

One of the more frequently used natural remedies for staph infection is castor oil. Put a few drops of castor oil on a cotton ball and place it on the boil. Secure the cotton ball with a band aid or gauze tape. Castor oil is one of the natural cures for staph infections – like boils – that cures within just two days of use. It works by seeping the toxins out off the bumps and dries out the puss.

Like most natural cures for staph infections, tea tree oil has antiseptic properties which can kill bacteria upon contact. Use it as you would other topical treatments. For staph infections like boils, a 10 percent solution usually works and can get you free from boils in no time, without the scars.

Moisture and heat can cure boils. Add a few drops of thyme, lavender or bergamot oil to water. Soak a compress in the water and apply it to the affected areas for half an hour, 3 to 4 times a day everyday or until the boil dries out.

While healing, make sure to keep boil wounds covered. Use topical treatments for staph infections like tea tree oil or a calendula salve to disinfect the wounds and prevent these from scarring. Change the gauzes as soon as they look yucky and overloaded with bacteria.

If boils refuse to heal, going to the doctor will be best. Regular oral or topical treatments for staph infections obviously do not work for you. Rather, your doctor can perform surgery to get the infection out and bring your skin back to the pink of health.
